My husband and I hired Charles Hunnicutt to clear off our land (in Clayton, Ga) in preparation for our new home, in June 2018. When he cleared the land, he left the debris (whole trees, branches, stumps, etc – see pictures) which he said that he would come back to get after the land had settled around the septic tank lines. He left a big tree stump, in the ground, that he said that he would come back to get when he came to fill in the area around the house. In November 2018, out of the blue, Charles sent my husband a text stating that we owed him $2800 for gravel and the removal of a tree that should have been removed during the initial clearing of the land (Charles had blueprints of the house and failed to remove a tree that prevented our deck from being completed and had to come back to remove it – guess he thought that we should be charged $600 for something that he should have removed in the initial clearing), and the gravel was something that the concrete guy ordered from him as part of the pouring of the concrete (we did not order this from him nor did we know that the concrete guy did, that was an arrangement between them. Seems awfully strange that you would wait 4 months to settle a debt that someone supposedly owed you. Fact is, Charles was paid, in full, in July 2018 and I am led to believe that this was his way to “get out of” completing the rest of the work. Now he simply doesn't have time to come back and finish the job that he was paid to do. My husband has called him several times (most of the time he doesn’t return our call or texts) to schedule for him to come and complete the work that he was paid to do and every time he simply says "I'm 3 weeks out, when the 3 weeks pass, he says I'm 2 months out”.....basically he doesn't plan to uphold his end of the deal. He does not give you a written contract when you hire him, so glad that I had one made up and he actually signed it. Good on my part, it will come in handy. DO NOT TRUST HIM, HE IS COMPLETELY DISHONEST AND HIS WORD IS NOT WORTH A DIME!!!! IF YOU DO HIRE HIM, DON’T PAY HIM UNTIL THE JOB IS FINISHED...COMPLETELY….LESSON LEARNED THE HARD WAY!!
