Fascinating museum full of history. Quite educational and all staff was welcoming and informative. Hands on, go at your own pace, and a lovely variety. Plenty of walking, but that adds to the feel and gives a better perspective on how times have changed.

Jun 7, 2026 · Google ReviewAn amazing museum of Appalachian history preserving an almost vanished way of life. They make it easy to envisage life in the shoes of someone from a different, simpler, and arguably richer and more local time and way of life. Informative, engaging, and a cause worth supporting.

Jun 5, 2026 · Google ReviewAmazing look into Appalachia's past and such a heartwarming story about the students and teachers who made this exhibit possible.
May 26, 2026 · Google ReviewThe Fox Fire museum was a development from a student writing project to learn from the people in this mountainous area about how things were done by the early settlers in the Appalachian areas. While the project was centered in Georgia, it applies to all of the areas from Georgia through West Virginia. There were the Fox Fire books that were the result of the written narrative that chronicle the methods used by the Scot-Irish and German settlers. This park and museum is an exhibit of the early log cabins and barns, relocated from the area to preserve the buildings. There are furnishings that were handmade to show how these people lived and worked off the land. There are experts who show how to do things like wood carve, make musical instruments, make cloth and a whole variety of workshops scheduled throughout the year. We spent about two and half hours there, but a full day would be possible if you are doing some of the workshops.
