Lengthy, moderate hike with a mesmerizing view! The hike is about 5 miles, and about halfway on your descent down, there’s another waterfall visible through the trees. The descent is not too bad, I’d recommend lots of water, especially as it gets warmer. Before you reach the waterfall there is a clearing that immerses you away from South Carolina with sweeping views of trees and the river. It is a perfect lunch/swimming spot with plenty of beach estate to go around. The trail guides you onto a narrower trail with some areas that require crossing over water. Proceed with caution! Our doggo got carried away, and my husband slipped. The waterfall itself opens back up and provides plenty of areas to sit and take everything in.
Apr 20, 2024 · Google ReviewAfter following the long gravel road, a clearing for parking emerges and the trailhead is clearly marked. The path is well maintained and the hike takes about 45 minutes to get to the falls. Once and the bottom by the creek and camping area, hang a sharp left and you will see a marker for Opossum Creek Falls. Totally worth any trouble to get there.
Jul 11, 2024 · Google ReviewMy family is not one of hikers, but as an Eagle Scout, I can appreciate a good trail. That’s exactly what this is. It’s about 2.5 miles from the parking area to the waterfall, but the walk is more than worth it. My family of 4 got many good photos, and we all said that the 5 mile hike (in the rain!) was more than worth it. The trail is about an 850 foot elevation change (or so I’m told) so expect a bit of work in your hiking but, like I said, my family is not a hiking family and we enjoyed the trip. About 2 miles in, there’s a camping area with some flat spots for tents, a fire ring, and a small sandy beach on the Chattooga River. The views at the waterfall (0.3 miles after the camp site, according to a trail marker) are fantastic. I’ve attached some of my pictures, but they cannot do it justice.
Aug 4, 2020 · Google ReviewIt's a 5mi hike round trip. Easy going down to the Falls & a good steady climb coming out with some flats spot to catch your breath. Hang a left once you get down to the River. Should see another sign pointing to Opossum Creek Falls.
Mar 14, 2021 · Google ReviewExcellent hike and falls. The trail is pretty well maintained with only a few recent blown over trees. Great views of the Chattooga River before you cut back to the falls itself. There is no path to the upper falls and requires some bush whacking and scrambling. FYI the cliffs are very steep with several downed trees on the left side.
